Hitting 10,000 steps isn’t that easy. I swear there are days that the kids go down for a nap and I’m only at 2-3,000 steps! I feel like I never sit down but apparently that doesn’t equal a ton of steps. There are other factors that help with step counts, like a bigger house, bedrooms on the top floor, walking places during the day, etc. BUT when I’m home with the kids, it’s not always possible to do those things, especially with this darn cold weather we keep having.
However, music is a big thing in our house. Annabelle knows words to tons of songs, and asks for music all day long. She has her favorites, and goes wild. About a month or so ago, we started joining in and having some spontaneous dance parties. She thinks they are hilarious and asks for “dance parties” ad says “Where’s my music?” all the time now! She requests her princess music, Disney music, or Mother Goose. Moana is still a favorite too.
But guys. These dance parties? Not only are they fun and get both kids laughing and having a blast, but you get so many steps! Like, tons. It’s like a mini cardio burst ha. But it’s FUN. I’m not trying to just walk in my house or do jumping jacks or high knees to add in steps. I’m moving and dancing like a crazy person around our house. Some days Nolan just stares at me like what are you doing, mom, but usually he wants picked up and danced around, too. Some days A is dressed in her princess outfits. Some days I’m dressed in them, too 😉
SO. Next time your toddler is getting bored, you’re bored, and you want to move, turn up the music and just DANCE. Just go for it and make a fool out of yourself. We have dance parties at least daily, but sometimes 2-3 times. They’ve been great during that hour before bed when everyone is just done for, ha! Even if you don’t have kids, crank up that music and dance.
Get those steps up and move to the music 😉
