When we grow up,and start to get a little older, we are constantly asked what we want to do with our life. Do we want to go to college? What do we want to major in? What school are we going to go to? Will we be happy doing it for the rest of your life? These questions are hard to answer as a kid, and to be honest, I’m having trouble answering them now.
I’ve always been one to know what I wanted to do with my life. I had dreams of fulfilling it, and would stand tall when someone questioned it. I never faltered with my decision, and felt like it was the best one for me. I attended college, graduated with a 4.0, and was ready to take on the world.
Problem is, things change. We are young when we go to school. But, we are encouraged to have a plan of action when we enter and know what we will be doing when we graduate 4, or more years later. I know numerous people that changed their majors throughout college, or are changing their plans now and you know what? I think that’s fantastic. It means you gave it a chance, and it didn’t live up to your expectations, or something better was out there.
When I first went to college, I hated all things fitness. I never worked out, I hated Track during high school, and I would laugh at people who went running for fun. Quickly upon entering college, fitness became my strong point, and I began to really enjoy doing it. Did I think that would ever happen? No way!
Dreams are there to lead us in a direction, but they don’t mean they are the end point. Reaching a dream is satisfying, but it leads you to more dreams. One of my dreams was graduating from college with a degree in education. I did it. I satisfied that dream. What now?
Well folks, my dreams are changing. I’m taking a look at life from a married stand point, and trying to figure out what’s best for us, and what will be best for our kids, whenever that happens. Maybe my dream includes teaching. Maybe my dream includes fitness. At this point, I don’t know, but I’m working on figuring it out.
What I’m trying to say is that it’s easy to have one dream in your mind, and put out others because you are working on focusing on that that one dream you think means the most. However, there are other dreams that may come into play as you move through life, and it’s worth taking a shot at all of them. Yes, it’s scary, but it’s what makes life fun. Maybe I’m writing this so that I finally take the next step with my dreams, or maybe to encourage you to do the same. So what if you change your outlook completely, or step in a totally different direction from what you always envisioned yourself. Life is tough, but we make due with what we are given. We live up to the challenges presented, and work towards making ourselves happy, and doing what’s the best for us. I encourage you all to take a look at your dreams, and think about what would make you really happy, and I encourage you to take a step in that direction.
