Having a weekend with minimal to do was a foreign concept to me. Thankfully, I got in the groove and managed to do a lot of relaxing! The weekend included game night with Aaron’s family at our house, game night at Jenn’s house, a run, relaxing, celebrating a birthday, food prep, weekly prep, some cinnamon roll pancakes, and dinner at my parents!
Today I wanted to recap more of our Chicago Trip. I feel like it was so long ago, and apologize I haven’t finished my recap yet! I have one last one with all the food we ate, so that will be on Wednesday. I left out any food pictures from today’s post.
Thursday night we arrived and checked into our hotel. We stayed at the Hilton Magnificent Mile. Matt got us an amazing discount for a King size suite from AAA. We stayed what was equivalent to Times Square in New York City- which I LOVED! We were so close to everything and walked so much. Here are some things to do in Chicago!
Timothy O’ Toole’s Bar
We all found food we loved and the atmosphere was great! We watched some football and then decided to head out and walk to a few different places.
- We checked it all out and loved walking around. We saw The Bean, Ice Skating rinks (yep, more than one), a new park they just opened. It was all perfect, and since we got there bright and early, it was pretty empty!
Lou Malnati’s Pizza
- After a recommendation from Becky, we went to Lou’s for lunch (I’ll talk more Wednesday about the yummy food we ate!). A preview includes me ordering the dessert before lunch and having people question my decisions
Binny’s and Trader Joe’s
Chicago is home to many brewery’s and lots of beer we don’t have access to in Pennsylvania. Matt and Aaron are both very much into their beer, so stops for Beer were important! Trader Joe’s sells my favorite wine (Blue Fin Moscato) for $3.99 and since PA can’t sell it, Shelby and I hit it up and stocked up!
Lincoln Park Zoo
After reading there was a free zoo, I knew we would have to visit since Aaron and I love the zoo. We had no expectations since it was in fact, free, but it was so fantastic! I would tell everyone to go there. There were so many animals out, and lots of exhibits that were inside for us to stay warm. My favorites were the Lion and Tiger exhibit. The Pittsburgh Zoo has them, but the animals are always high up on a hill. These ones were right on the glass and I have never seen them so close! We walked around for many hours taking it all in.
The Navy Pier
Again, we didn’t have expectations for this either, but it turned out to be amazing. It is 3,300 feet long, with yachts docked, a Ferris Wheel at the top, Some of it is under construction, but in all, it was a very fun place to roam around. There were lots of little stores, a food court of sorts, followed by activities you could check out. We kept walking and walking to find the Stained Glass room before heading back. There was a Ferris Wheel, too!
There are a lot of shops, including a mall, right on Michigan Avenue. Aaron and I popped into many on the walk back to the hotel, and checked out the mall.
Meeting up with a Blend
When Aaron and I first decided we were going to Chicago, I knew I had to meet up with Susie! We planned on going for a run Saturday morning but since it was all rain and cold, Susie told me to stay inside and she would go for a run herself, which I was sad about but happy not to be in the rain. We met up for breakfast where we talked for quite some time, then went to a coffee shop to continue talking. She stayed with us all day before meeting up with her husband, Alex, Saturday night for dinner and watching the Steelers play (let’s not talk about that!…) at a bar. Aaron and I had such a great time with Susie and Alex. Aaron was surprised how we chat for hours, never run out of things to talk about, and know so much about each other so it’s never awkward. We got along so well with them and can’t wait until they come to Pittsburgh!
Another one of the main reasons we went to Chicago was for the Brewery’s they have. Aaron and Matt decided they wanted to check out Revolution, so we headed out of the city to find it. Susie came along, too! They enjoyed a beer at the brewery before we headed to the pub for some snacks and another beer. It was a fun atmosphere to be in!
There are really so many things to do in Chicago! These are just a few of the things we did.
