This Christmas has exceeded my expectations in so many ways. While I knew it would be different being married and not walking down the steps at my parent’s house, I wasn’t sure how I would feel about it and how everything would work out. Turns out, I absolutely loved how everything worked out, but I’m going to break up my posts into 3, one for each day we celebrated (mostly because I don’t want to bore you in one long post!).
Growing up, we never really celebrated Christmas Eve. We always spent the day together, getting last minute things made for Christmas day, and just being with the family, but we never had parties to go to, or opened gifts. We always went to Christmas Eve Mass, had dinner, and opened a movie to watch that night.
Over the past few years, we still did this, but dinner always changed, and we no longer opened a movie to watch (we would watch a Christmas one we had!). It still was a great night, and I enjoyed the relaxing evening before the hustle and bustle.
When Aaron and I started trying to figure out how to master holidays, Christmas Eve seemed to be a great night to celebrate with his family. They don’t have extended family to celebrate with, and being they are all night owls, it was much better to do our celebration with them then instead of Christmas morning. Last year was the first year we did this, and I implemented a Grab Bag, and it worked out fantastically.
Not gonna lie, didn’t like my outfit. I usually dress up a lot more, but I couldn’t wear heels, and barely got the boots on. But, I made it and was able to wear regular shoes, so that’s a plus!
So, after making the last of dips, making cookie trays, and gearing up for the first of our celebration.
Our first stop was at Aaron’s parent’s house to see his nephew who wouldn’t be there later. We gave him his gift, and then headed to Christmas Eve mass with my family at 4:00. After dinner, Aaron, Matt, and I ate Danny’s hoagies (if you are in Pittsburgh, you need to eat these), while my parent’s ate their favorite pizza.
After relaxing and watching some Christmas episodes of Home Improvement (loved that show), Aaron and I were off to Christmas Eve service with his family at his church at 7:30. After this is when our celebration happened. We had snacks to munch on, family to enjoy, and our grab bag! I made out with my presents. Arm sleeves, running towel that keeps you cool, and some hair wraps for when I get out of the shower. All things that describe me.
One of the gifts I received at my Bridal Shower was a basket of wine for our “firsts.” There was a bottle in there for Christmas Eve, so of course we had to open it. Though I wasn’t a huge fan, I loved remembering our wedding, and enjoying that with everyone.
We headed home a little while later, and spent some time just the two of us. We opened our Christmas jammies (a new tradition I love and will continue) before heading to bed around midnight. I’m such a little kid, though, and didn’t sleep as well knowing Santa would be there in the morning!
Christmas Day to follow…
