Happy Sunday, everyone! If you are in the U.S., I hope you enjoy knowing there is an extra day off tomorrow!
If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you know that after some tough months, along with a week long hospital stay, I was finally diagnosed with Lymphocytic Colitis. I was lucky to find a Digestive Disorders Clinic at a nearby hospital, where I ultimately found out my diagnosis, as well as what I need to do to keep it in check.
Honestly, I forget I had it a lot of the time. It flares up from time to time, and if I catch the flu, it will get even worse, but! I’m lucky that I found out what works for the main culprit: severe stomach cramping and pains during and for hours after a run.
Most people told me just to give up running, but I was definitely not about to do that. I found out that my body lacks electrolytes, and especially during my runs. I need to drink something full of electrolytes prior to my run, and a lot of it. I’ve found things over the years that work, but after drinking the same thing for months at a time, they get old.
I was very lucky to have the opportunity to try out BODYARMOR® This drink boasts 2.5 times more electrolytes per serving than their competitor sports drinks. Hello! I need electrolytes! This was perfect and I knew I had to give it a try.
We are all busy people, who live busy lives, and adding in exercise makes us need to replenish what we lose through sweating. Electrolytes are essential to muscle function, and to replenish the salt that was lost through sweating. Most times, the food we eat is enough to replenish what we lost, but sometimes we need more. That’s where BODYARMOR® comes in. They are only 70 calories, and contain some fantastic ingredients.
BODYARMOR® contails electrolytes, vitamins, coconut water, natrual flavors, as well as colors and sweeteners. They have no preservatives, are gluten free, no caffeine, and are nut free.
BODYARMOR® comes in five flavors. I tried them all out and have my thoughts on them all.
Fruit Punch is my favorite flavor in most drinks. Some drinks are too powerful, but these were perfect! I was pleasantly happy with the fruit punch flavor.
If pineapple is a fruit you love, you will be all over this. It was really good, even though I do not like pineapple. This had a mix of orange, pineapple, cherries, and apple taste. The pineapple flavor definitely wins out, but the mixture of the fruit blends well together.
Mmm. Strawberry banana was perfect. You had the immediate hit of strawberry, and the aftertaste with more banana. With this one cold from the fridge, it was the most refreshing. This was my favorite flavor!
I make my smoothies with mixed berries all the time, and thought I would really like this one. Unfortunately, I just wasn’t a fan of the taste. I didn’t exactly taste mixed berries at first taste. I tried it a few times, and it did come to grow on me. I wouldn’t be reaching for this if I had all the other options, though.
Orange Mango tasted a lot like mango. I could taste a bit of orange zest to it, but the majority was mango. I am not an actual fan of mangos, but this wasn’t awful. It wasn’t my favorite because of that taste, but Aaron really liked it, and he loves mango. Basically, if you like mango, you will love this!
You know how sometimes grape flavors taste like fake grape? This flavor tasted exactly like grapes. Fun fact: I only started liking actual grapes about a year ago. This was one of my favorites. It was so refreshing!
I am very excited to have these as alternatives to the drinks I have to take down before I go running. I have actually enjoyed drinking them even if I wasn’t running. They are low in calories compared to their counterparts, and more electrolytes. I don’t know if you can get much better!
