This weekend was not only beautiful weather wise, but it was just a really relaxing one, too. That makes it perfect to link up with Katie on this marvelous Monday!
I ended up only working a half day, which actually made me pretty upset. I was scheduled for a full day of subbing, and when I showed up, they changed me to a half day. At this point, I really couldn’t get any other work, so that was a bummer. I made the most of it, and got my grocery shopping done for the week and started baking for a party on Saturday!
Side note: is it just me or does everyone try to carry all the bags up in one trip? I will do anything not to make 2 trips, haha
Shortly after Aaron came home, and left for his concert, I headed to my parents. I wanted to get my mom caught up on her workout plan, and I really just wanted to hang out with her and eat some dinner. It was all accomplished, and I came home around 8:30, and plopped myself on the couch with Hot Chocolate in hand!
Saturday began bright and early with my cousin Jenn and her friend arriving at our house at 6:30! We all ran The Color Run, and since it was near our house and we knew our way around, they just met us here to carpool! I’ll recap this race this week, but we all had fun!
After coming home and relaxing on the couch for a few hours (Aaron was not happy about an early wake up after a late night!), we headed out to start our day. You know those days that everything is happening all at one time, and not really close to each other? Yep, that would be Saturday. We literally had birthday parties, parties in the park, family parties, and Chili Cookoffs to go to! Needless to say, we tried out best to get to most, but it didn’t quite work out.
Our first stop was a Chili Cook Off with someone Aaron works with. It was over an hour drive away, but we knew this was the bulk of our day. There were over 15 kinds of Chili! I didn’t even know there could ever be that many. I didn’t taste too many (I’m really strange with what kinds of chili I like), but I made up with all the other goodies. There were hot dogs (cooked in a crock pot.. who knew?!), homemade Mac and Cheese, pasta salad, bread with beer cheese, nachos and cheese (my favorite), veggies and hummus, and more! That’s not even including the desserts.
I made Apple Cider cupcakes with Apple Cider frosting to take, along with regular cornbread and Jalapeno corn bread. It was my first time making corn bread, and I cooked it a bit too long. It was really crumbly, but still edible. The cupcakes were amazing, though! Of course, Blogger fail on all of it because I didn’t snap pictures. I felt awkward while around a bunch of people I just met! Just imagine a lot of food, and a lot of yummy desserts.
Our day continued with a stop to Aaron’s parent’s house for his brother’s birthday. We made it just in time to sing Happy Birthday and hang out for a little bit. We then headed to one of the parties in the park where our friends were. By the time we left, we were done for, and headed home to crash in bed!
Sunday was quite the lazy day, and I loved it! However, it started really early with Benson waking us up at 6:00 am. Aaron was able to go back to sleep but he wouldn’t let me. I ended up on the couch trying to keep him occupied with toys, but needless to say, I didn’t really sleep.
Instead, I cleaned the entire house. Not such a bad deal, right? Some days everything gets to me and I just can’t take it, and Sunday was one of them! A little vaccumming, lemon Pledge, and Lemon oil later, and it was as good as new!
The rest of the day was spent organizing some workouts and recipes, and watching the Steelers WIN! Who knew they had it in them this season? Lol I also ended up taking a nap during the entire 3rd quarter, which was much appreciated.
Right after the game we went to my parents to celebrate my dad’s birthday! He was really excited to get his gifts, but unfortunately can’t do much with them. It turns out he has bulging disks in his neck, and he must have slept wrong on them, putting pressure on the nerves and making him in severe pain. He is heading to a neck surgeon today (he’s been to a neurologist and orthopedic already…) to see what’s going on. I’m just praying they find it and can fix it, because it’s terrible seeing him in so much pain!
After gifts, we enjoyed an amazing dinner! We had shrimp for an appetizer while opening gifts, and that’s always a winner!
Our dinner included crab cakes, fresh bread, cheesy potatoes, and zucchini. Mmm. It’s one of my favorite meals, ever. Since my dad couldn’t make them, he supervised my mom the entire way, and she did a great job! It was a great birthday celebration!
In other news, I feel much better after taking time off from working out. I am more than ready to get back into it today, but will still be listening to my body. I am still dealing with some pain in my foot, though. I did run the 5K on Saturday, but it was a very slow run, and more about fun! If I didn’t have a blister as a battle wound from old shoes, I wouldn’t have even felt like I went for a run! I really wanted to take it easy to give my body more of a break. Hopefully things look up this week and I am back to it!
