I remember being younger, and staying outside until the street lights came on. That meant it was time to head inside and, usually, go to bed. But if I wasn’t called for, I stayed outside or was playing at someone else’s house. It made for a lot of fun memories, and actually makes me sad that this new generation doesn’t experience it. I do see some kids riding bikes in the park, or at the swingset, but not nearly enough. Many are content staying inside and watching video games, which is hurting them in the long run.
Now that I rambled on about lack of exercise for kids, I thought it would be fun to think about all the fun ways we stayed fit as a kid, and how we can incorporate them to exercise like a kid again!
How many memories did those activities bring up? It seriously reminded me of how much fun life was without technology. Now, don’t get me wrong, I definitely love it, but I fear my children (NOT anytime soon!) will miss out on all of these things. It actually made me want to go out and do some of that for my workout. Like, go for a run and (as long as there aren’t a ton of kids around!) stop at the playground and add in some other exercises.
So yesterday was another fun day of painting at our house. Don’t get me wrong, I love seeing all the progress! I actually should have a few pictures to share soon We don’t have much work, so to speak, in the house to do; it is just a lot of painting. And because the house was old, we are painting baseboards. You know what that means? I spend my entire day around paint fumes. Luckily, Behr had a non-odor kind which kind of helps! Regardless, yesterday I needed out. I spent the entire morning there, and just needed out in the air. So I went for a run on a new trail. I set out for a 30 minute run.. just enough to feel accomplished, but short enough that it didn’t take too much time out of my day. It was perfect.. not too hot, not too cold.. cloudy.. and relaxing. It was totally what I needed before heading back into the house! I am beginning to miss all of my workouts, but with lifting furniture.. I can’t make my muscles sore beforehand! Haha Besides, I think this rest is what my body has needed, anyway. Win.. Win.
