Before vacation, I kept up my workouts everyday, for mostly 5-6/7 days. I love to workout, but I actually could tell my body needed a break. I listed, and gave it that on vacation. I never forced myself to get workouts in, and just went with how my body was feeling. We stay in an area with a LOT of hills; more than I am used to. Combine that with more humidity from being right on the lake, and it results in a tad bit harder workout.
That being said, my workout of choice was running (of course). I went for 3 runs this week, and one walk with Aaron.
There are actually 2 huge hills you can climb on the route all the runners in the house use. One of them, we call Heart Attack Hill. My heart rate was over 194 while climbing this hill. It is long, starting out gradual, and then becomes a steep upgrade. Honestly, no one really enjoys this hill, but it is always an accomplishment to get to the top! On Sunday, I ran the entire way up with no stops (until I was up there huffing and puffing trying to catch my breath!) Wednesday, I avoided the hill. My legs were very tight, and I just didn’t want to push myself. On Friday, I ran with Kristy, and we tackled it. Both of us walked a bit of it, and then pushed on through to get to the top. It makes for a pretty nice return route, though!
This wasn’t even half of the hill.
I also completed another workout on Wednesday. My run was only a half hour, so I followed it up with my Leg Challenge from a few weeks ago, and a new ab circuit (we’ll get to that in a second!)
Besides running, I did work on my fitness in other ways. One of them was wakeboarding. It is extremely difficult to go for long runs and then get up on a wakeboard. Well, getting up isn’t the problem. It is the immediate cramps in your legs you get while up on the wakeboard. I have gone for long runs and then wakeboarded before, but I seem to suffer and not be able to do what I would like to on the water. I went wakeboarding every day this week, and really worked my legs.
I also went tubing a bunch. You wouldn’t think you worked many muscles on this, until the next morning. Each one of us would wake up feeling tight all over our upper body just from trying to hold on to the tube! I should note we don’t go easy on the tube! We fall off 3-4 times on any given run from how fast we go combined with the waves we hit. However, each of us likes this. Those who want to go slower and for an easier ride most definitely get what they want!
Now, the real reason you are here…
Who wouldn’t want to go skidding on the water, seriously? That would be Bridget and me flying through the water.
I didn’t keep up with working on my abs as much as I would have liked to this past week, but I did work on them once. I didn’t think I did too much, but I was sore for a few days! Of course I needed to share it if it left me sore!
Quick and painless! Complete it one, two, or three times!
Here are some demonstrations for some of the exercises:
Toe Touches (30 seconds in)
How else do you get your workouts in and fitness when you don’t have the typical equipment available?
Would you rather walk or run?
