Since this is a fitness blog, and today is Thursday, let’s do some thinking out loud about fitness.
I haven’t shared an update on my new workout schedule since I switched my classes around at the gym. I had asked for opinions on how I should change up my schedule, and so many of you delivered! I thought I’d share what I do each day and maybe inspire you to change yours around, or find a way to fit it all in!
I teach Body Sculpt (pure strength training) class on Monday nights, and Cardio Sculpt (strength and cardio intervals) on Tuesday nights. At my gym, the instructors do the entire workout with the class. Of course, I fix form when needed, but I am mostly in the front demonstrating. This means, those are my workouts for the days, too. It is a huge bonus since it takes a lot of time to make up the workouts and create playlists.
I’ve decided that since I teach 24 hours apart on Mondays and Tuesdays, I shouldn’t add a running day Tuesday morning. It’s too much on my body, so I switched running to Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday is usually a shorter run, maybe 3ish miles or a HIIT workout. Thursday I aim for 4-5 miles and abs. Since I do two days of strength Mondays and Tuesdays, I try to add a day on Friday for an additional strength day. Sometimes that’s in the form of a workout, or sometimes a video online. I’ve found Grokker to have great workout videos for free! Sometimes, I take an additional rest day on Fridays if I feel like I need it. Saturdays are typically a longer run day- 5, 6, or 7 miles, and maybe abs. Sundays are still a rest day.
So far, this is working for me! I know things will be switching around as I train for this next half marathon! Who knows. For now, I’m feeling great with my workouts. It’d be great to keep up my running stamina and be able to get a long run in during the weekend, but sometimes it won’t happen. I’m trying to be okay with less, and embracing additional rest days. It’s harder than I’d like to admit, but just something else to work towards! I’d love to be able to teach multiple classes a week and do my own workouts, but that doesn’t happen and I’m ok with it. Yes, I have looked at others who can teach 10 classes a week and be ok with it, but that just doesn’t work for me.
