Today I’m sharing Five Simple Ways to Avoid Holiday Weight Gainthis holiday season.
We all know that the holidays are coming up (as in Tomorrow for the Americans reading!) and most of us will celebrate around many holiday food dishes. We will have parties to attend, cookies to bake (and eat!), family get togethers, and that’s all BEFORE Christmas! Holidays are a time that should be enjoyed, not stressed out about. Here are Five Simple Ways to Avoid Holiday Weight Gain, and help you relax during the holiday craziness, while still feeling great!
1. Remember, they are only a few days out of the year
The holidays are only a couple days out of the year. Thanksgiving and Christmas are the big holidays that we usually celebrate, especially with a lot of food! Remember, your diet will not be ruined by just a few days. Enjoy the food and family/friends! Remember to get back on the healthy food train the next day.
2. Decline leftovers politely
You had your fill of the food, and it’s time to say goodbye until next year. Leave the “to go” containers at home, and decline politely when asked if you’d like leftovers. This will help you focus on maintaining your health and not going down a path of eating food you know won’t make you feel so great.
3. Survey first
How many times have you gone to a party or been at someone’s house for a holiday and started eating the food you saw first, only to realize there was more somewhere else? In this case, take your time and check out all of the food options. Then, pick up a plate and go back for the choices that you really like.
4. Get in a workout!
Ladies and gents, please don’t tell me you don’t have time! There are many workouts that can be completed in a short amount of time! If you know you have a party that night, get up and move early! Many cities have Turkey Trots or try some at home workout options. You’ll feel better if you work out, I promise. You actually are more likely to make better food decisions if you work out!
Here are a few at home workouts that are less than 30 minutes!
5. Don’t stress
Stress is going to wreck more havoc on your body than the food will. Enjoy the holidays for what they have to offer. You know everything will get done, so just take each day at a time, and soak in the moments.
