… wedding cake that is!
If you’ve missed any of my wedding planning, catch up here!
Oddly enough, choosing a wedding cake was something Aaron and I weren’t really concerned with. I know it is a huge part of your wedding, so to say, but neither Aaron nor I are cake lovers. Don’t get me wrong, we will eat it, but we didn’t have specifics that we wanted, or a place we needed to get it from.
The wedding package that we chose for our reception actually included a bakery. If you are from anywhere around Pittsburgh, you might have heard of Bethel Bakery. People rave about their cakes. Funny, Aaron and I aren’t huge fans! We talked to our wedding planner about going elsewhere, but in the end, we just weren’t that picky about it! Knowing that everyone else loves this place, we chose just to go with Bethel Bakery.
Choosing our wedding cake was on our to- do list, but we figured it would show up closer to the wedding. After Christmas, Aaron and I happened to be out around there so we stopped in to make an appointment. Turns out they had one the next morning, and we decided since Aaron was off, we’d cross it off our list! Yes, morning. We ate wedding cake at 10:00 am. No regrets.
We were greeted with a plate of 5 flavors of cake, and multiple other flavors for the icing. There were certain options that came along with our package, so we couldn’t go all extravagant, but we still liked trying them all! We could’ve spent more to upgrade to a different flavor and filling, but again, we weren’t being that picky. Aaron’s favorite flavor, though, was an orange cake, with a special icing that made it taste like an orange creamsicle. He really wanted this, but too many college nights of drinking whipped vodka and orange pop made me want to gag. No thanks.
We ultimately decided on white, white almond, and yellow cakes, and a buttercream filling and icing. Our cake will be 4 tiers like the picture above, and each tier will have the 3 flavors in it. This way, each person can get a taste of it all!
Our cake will have be similar to this one. We will have green as the design color, and I gave them pink ribbon to wrap around each layer just like the other pictures!
All in all, cake tasting was very fun, and very yummy! So excited to see the final thing!
What flavor of cake is your favorite? Are you a cake lover or is it hit or miss?
