How is everyone on the beautiful start to a long weekend? I hope your day is full of fun, and you get to spend time with friends or family <3
I was recently contacted by LUNA nutrition about attending a kick off event for the “Feed Your Strength… At Work!” campaign that had going on. This contest was apart of the larger “Feed Your Strength” initiative, which launched earlier this year and encourages women to share how they empower themselves in their daily lives.
4Moms, a company based in Pittsburgh that is dedicated to making innovative baby products to make life easier, was selected to win this campaign. They submitted the ways they try to stay healthy and happy in the workplace as an entire company. As the grand prize winner, 4Moms received a fully stocked LUNA vending machine for six months! Along with this, though, was that they won nutritional counseling sessions from LUNA’s in-house nutrition team.
I want this fully stocked in every school I sub in this year! Amazing!
Though I was unable to attend this event, I was eager to learn more about it. I have enjoyed Luna’s products, especially the LUNA protein bars, so to find our more about nutrition was exciting to me! Tara is the registered Dietitian and nutrition strategist for LUNA, as well as for the larger parent company, Clif Bar and Company. She is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Dietetic Association- basically, she knows her stuff. She works to make sure each of their products fully supports women, and has wholesome ingredients.
Sometimes we all need to hear tips for staying healthy in the workplace! It’s easy to pack non substantial things, and overindulge in candy! Here are some tips to keep you feeling your best:
1. Eat Breakfast– Aim for fiber-rich carbs and protein for the staying power into lunch.
2. Snack Smart– Snacking with smart options with veggies, or a LUNA protein bar keeps you from situations the lead to mindless snacking.
3.Don’t skip lunch– You need to reenergize your body and brain!
4. Stay hydrated– You may be mistaking hunger for thirst. Drink a glass of water before going digging for more food.
5. Get Up and Move!– Exercise really does keep my appetite at bay. Not even intense exercise; just get up throughout the day instead of sitting at a desk. Go for a walk, enjoy the fresh air. Take the stairs! It all adds up
Some things to know about LUNA Protein bars,
-They contain 12 grams or soy and whey protein, 3 grams of fiber
– Each bar is between 170-190 calories (NOT BAD!)
– Contains the CORE 4 vitamins and minerals essential to women’s health
-Contains calcium, folic acid, and vitamin D
– They are sold nationwide, along with online. I find a lot of them at Target! Best selection.
Best of all, I was sent three different LUNA Protein bars to review! Packages at my door make me extremely happy, and for it to include these made my day!
I immediately dug into the Mint Chocolate Chip bar.
I have tried this one once or twice, but knew I needed it again. To me, it tastes like a Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookie (the best ones, obviously!). I really loved the chocolate you had on the outside, but it was enough of a mint flavor on the inside. It is definitely one I will be stocking up on!
This particular bar also has 170 calories, 5 grams Fat (3.5 Sat. Fat), 20 g Carbs, and 12 g Protein!
Next up was the Cookie Dough flavor. If you are reading this, you know I am cookie obsessed. This would be a bar I have had many times before, but never get tired of it. Not only does it taste like cookie dough, but the chocolate covering gives me enough sweetness to not need anymore. It also holds off my appetite because of the protein in it. This one remains my favorite! I really enjoy having them as a mid-morning, or mid-afternoon snack. Keeps my hunger at bay This bar has 170 calories,12 g protein, 21 g Carbs, and 6 g Fat (3.5 Sat. Fat)
The last one.. the Chocolate Peanut Butter flavor. You may also recall that I don’t like Peanut Butter. I know, I am so crazy and weird. Therefore, I really can’t tell you too much about how this one tastes. I am going to have my mom try it next time I see her, but until then, I’ll share more of the facts with you. Based on how much I love LUNA bars, I am sure this one is a favorite to many. Even I know that anything that combines chocolate and peanut butter together is a winner! This bar has 190 calories, 12 g Protein, 19 g Carbs, 8 g Fat (3.5 Sat. Fat).
I really hope you enjoyed learning more about LUNA and their campaign to empower women. If you have yet to try LUNA Protein bars, I highly suggest you run to Target now to check out the wide selection! They also have great LUNA bars, that don’t have quite as many grams of protein, but are still a delicious treat!
I was provided with LUNA protein bars in exchange for this review. However, all thoughts and opinions are my own. I enjoyed learning more about workplace wellness, and applaud LUNA for helping women stay healthy.
