I began teaching group fitness in June 2014 and continued with a variety of classes until I was 38 weeks pregnant with Annabelle, aka Last October. I loved teaching through pregnancy and felt my best in front of the class lifting, jumping, and pushing ourselves.
I had a pretty easy pregnancy, a not so easy labor, but easyish delivery. I taught the 6 am classes before taking my maternity leave, and figured I’d start up again in January. That was the plan all along. But then, I actually had Annabelle, and waking up during the night was enough of a shock that waking up at 5:30 (when she typically woke at 4:30 for a feeding, mind you) was just not appealing. January came and went, and going back grew further and further away. I actually set up another interview with a different gym, but things never followed through with that one. Once I finally felt like I was in a groove and perhaps ready to head back, Annabelle was diagnosed with reflux and Aaron was out of town a lot, and I just had a rough time. Throw in a new job, and teaching at the gym was the least important thing to me.
Over the months, I’ve grown to miss it a lot. I have been doing my fair share of workouts, making the most out of the time I have, and fitting in great exercises! I feel like I have regained all of my strength (not my booty, though.. ) and maybe even gotten stronger. Over the last month or two, I’ve felt the urge to get back to sharing my workouts and pushing others to their best.
Logistically, the right class has to open up at the right time. The early morning ones are my favorite, but there is no childcare, Annabelle is still sleeping, and Aaron would have to go in late to work. For the evening classes, I need to make sure either Aaron is home or I have someone to watch A. There is childcare during group fitness classes, which I’m very excited about, but I know I’ll have to slowly introduce Annabelle to those. There’s not a doubt in my mind that she will not make it for over an hour without me the first time she goes. So yeah, there’s some work to do
I’m excited to get back to it, and it seems there is a class right now that may fit my schedule and I can start back to. This is where I need your help! I’ve listened to far too many country songs and Kidz Bop that I barely know the good songs that are out! What is YOUR favorite workout song, whether lifting, spin, Barre (do they play music?!), or running! I need to update my playlists or I may have some members leaving when they hear Old MacDonald come on…
