Thank you all for the sweet birthday comments! I enjoyed every one of them, and they made me feel very special! The blog world is unlike any other, and I just couldn’t get over all the friends I’ve made, in just a few months! I will be sure to recap it either tomorrow or Monday!
My Birthday Workout:
I woke up yesterday with the intention of running in the park, for what I’d like to be about 6 miles or so. I did this once the week before, and knew I could do it. I tried to tell myself I would be happy with 4 miles, down the park and back, but I really wanted 6. Everything was going great. It was an overcast morning, but I had birds chirping around me. I would really like it to be clear one morning I run so early so I can see the sun rise! I started off my run like any other, and was really excited to see they paved the park. This meant I didn’t need to run it like a maze avoiding holes!
My legs felt heavy the first half mile, but that was due to 125 burpees I did less than 12 hours before (darn you Workout C!) but then I got in a groove and really felt awesome during it! There was just something about my run that had me feeling amazing.. until the 3rd mile.
Mile 3 brought some challenges.. with my stomach. I started having stomach pains, but had hopes that it would go away, like it sometimes does. It wasn’t terrible but I knew the stomach pains were from my Colitis. I started feeling better, and felt like I could finish my run and make it the extra 2 to make it 6 miles. I hit 4 miles, and really, really, felt terrible. The stomach pains were lasting longer and more consistent. I had to quit running multiple times just to get the pains to subside. I decided I would get to the end of the park, where I had my SMARTwater, and drink some of that, wait a few minutes, and continue on. I did just that. I waited about 5 minutes while sitting in my car. I thought I felt great. I decided to start running around an oval right by the park just to make it to at least 5 miles. I started and within a 1/4 lap (1/8 of a mile) I had to quit because I was doubled over in pain.
I don’t say this for any sympathy.. really, people have it a lot worse than me. But, I can’t help but get mad at my stomach and my colon. It is because of Colitis that I have to deal with this, and it really takes the fun out of running. I was really upset on my drive home yesterday because I don’t know what to do. I won’t quit running. I just can’t, but I also need to figure out something that works for me. Most days I can run 4 miles with some SMARTwater and be COMPLETELY fine. Yesterday? I didn’t even make it 3. What gives?
Thanks for letting me ramble, I just needed to get that out there, mostly so I can remember that this does happen, but I will find a way to get over this hurdle, and move on with running. Running gives me the ultimate satisfaction; there is nothing like the high you get from a long distance run, a new PR, or an enjoyable run. I won’t give that up. Colon and stomach, you can get over yourself because I will win this battle.
And with that, I am off to do a little shopping with my mom, hopefully fit in this workout from Melissa, and then head to our boat! It’s currently sunny and hot, but apparently it is supposed to rain… We’ll see!
