This past weekend was such a whirlwind, but an absolutely fantastic whirlwind. Brief background; our friend, Lenny, moved to New York last year and has been traveling every week to Boston. For our wedding gift, he gifted us a flight to and hotel in New York City. We stayed at The “W,” right in the middle of Times Square (on 47th and 7th) and couldn’t have asked for a better hotel. The staff was amazing, a DJ played in the living room every night from 10:30- 3am, and whatever you needed they were there for. We were upgraded to a two bedroom suite, which was ah-mazing! Two rooms, two bathrooms, king size bed, view of Times Square. Too good to be true!
The details being pink were just icing on the cake!
Lenny actually was the one who set Aaron and I up. Aaron and Lenny have been friends since elementary school, and then I met him through my brother, and met Aaron soon after. We knew we would have a great time, and being that Len travels every week, he hasn’t really done the whole touristy thing, so we all knew that was what our weekend would consist of! I’ve been to NYC numerous times, and Aaron has been once, yet we still saw so many new things.
Being that New York City is just amazing, but we were constantly running from one thing to the next, I’ll have more than one recap of the trip! I hope you all enjoy and find maybe one thing you didn’t know!
Our flight arrived in Laguardia Airport around 3:30, where we hopped in a cab and sat in traffic drove over to our hotel.
After checking in to our hotel, checking out the room, and changing clothes, Len met us and then we were off!
Our first stop was to the M&M store. I mean, seriously so fun. An entire store for M&Ms, oh and baking things. I wanted those!
Side note: I am loving mugs lately. I couldn’t wait to find one from New York City to add to our collection!
We made our way to the Hershey Store, and the Toys R Us store.
Upon walking into the Hershey store, you are given some chocolate! Hello, favorite store!
Both were awesome. I am such a little kid in these kinds of stores. I just think everything is so fun, and then I wish I was creative enough to ever come up with things to sell, ha.
We soon started our walk down downtown, checking out all the tourist places on the way, including Madison Square Gardens.
Our destination was the Flat Iron building (in Flat Iron District). It literally is like the little Monopoly piece! It was really interesting to see, and again, something we had never been to!
There was also a building (I can’t remember what it’s called!) which was like a market inside. Lots of little stores, restaurants, Italian areas, beer and wine, coffee, ice cream, and more! There were so many interesting items to look through, and I was so glad we had the chance to go through it!
It was a beautiful night out- mid 40s, and little wind. We couldn’t have asked for better weather the entire weekend. When we loaded the plane, it was really snowing and laying on the ground, but didn’t see any snow once we flew out of Pittsburgh.
Our night continued with deciding where we wanted to eat dinner. We told Lenny we just wanted to leave things up in the air as we would see where we were at since we had plans later on. Turns out, Shake Shack was right near the Italian Market. It was burgers and milkshakes. Clearly I was all about the milkshakes!
This restaurant was right in the middle of a grass field, where you walked up, placed your order, and waited until it was ready. Tables were there to sit at, and I immediately noticed some had heaters beside them. The weather was nice to walk around in, but I knew once we sat down I would freeze if I didn’t have a heater. Luckily, right before our food was ready, some people left and we snagged the seat! The food was pretty good. My chocolate milkshake tasted like coffee, so I was bummed about that, but it was still a really cool place to eat at and I was happy we made it there!
Our plans for the night included a comedy show, which we needed to take the subway to. I love the subway; they are very conveniently located and come very quickly. We were able to jump on them and get everywhere we needed to in just a few minutes!
When we planned this trip, Lenny had mentioned there was a comedy show happening, and even though he didn’t know who was going to be there, we wanted to go. I have only been to a comedy show on our cruise for our honeymoon but it was so funny, and figured this would be to. They were called the Step Fathers, with 2 ladies, and 3 men.
They are an improv group, and hysterical. There are two halves, and to start, someone just blurts out a word from the audience and they start. The first half began from the word “booger” and the second half was “skin.” You wouldn’t think either of those would be enough for a show, but the group was just so fantastic at incorporating the elements and going off on them. We had a great time, and I would definitely go back next time!
With Saturday being an early and very busy day, we headed back to the hotel to catch some sleep—or so I thought. After a subway ride, a few blocks walk, and almost back to our hotel, Aaron turned to me, with a surprised face, felt his back, and realized he left his backpack- with my dad’s DSLR in it- at the comedy show! Freaking out would be an understatement of what we were doing. We immediately called Len to make sure we knew how to get back (he was at his apartment), ran to the subway, tried calling the place again and again, and just prayed it would be there. We finally got ahold of the place, where they said if it was found, it would be in the lost and found, but he didn’t sound like they had found it. There was a show going on immediately after ours, so we hoped we could at least wait around until that ended and see if someone had it. Luckily, we got there, explained we lost it, described it, and they brought it out to us! It was a huge relief, but really nerve-wracking for that bit of time! We did eventually make it back to our hotel, and were welcomed with this.
Whew, that ends a recap of Friday! See what I mean? You have to squeeze lots into little time, and that was just the first night!
Recap #2 coming up tomorrow!
What’s the last thing you did that freaked you out?
Have you ever been to a Comedy Show? What’d you think of it?
