Our family vacation took us back to Deep Creek Lake this year. We go once a year with my dad’s family, or at least some of them. He’s one of 10 kids, so you can imagine how hard it is to get everyone together! We rent two houses (some years right beside each other and some years down the road) and one is the “central” house, with all the food, the boat docked, paddle boards, and kayaks. We all hang out here and the second house is basically for sleeping.
I’m lucky to have a close knit family, and this is definitely the highlight of the summer. No one cares what you do, how long you sleep, where you want to go. For the most part, we all stay at the house, and unless it’s your night to cook, you really don’t leave. My dad’s family has quite the system, and each family is designated a night to cook (as well as a list of things to bring so we have what we need and not too much!). On that day, you head to the grocery store and stock up on whatever we need at the house, and pretty much take over the kitchen. It’s really nice to only worry about one night of cooking, and the rest of the evenings you are just called when dinner is ready. My dinner was with my cousin Brynn, and we were in charge of Pizza Pies (or mountain pies) over the fire. This meant we didn’t even have to cook! Everyone cooked themselves
While this was definitely still a very fun week, I would be lying if I said it was stress free. Nolan doesn’t sleep for just anyone, and really struggled for naps. Sharing one room was difficult, and that meant I held Nolan for 2 or 3 of his naps daily. He was worn a lot, too. We made it work, and it was fun and exciting for Annabelle. We had tons of hands to entertain our children, and that was amazing. When Nolan was awake, he was in everyone else’s arms so they could hang out with him. But, I can’t wait for next year when we will have a bit more freedom. Don’t get me wrong, I found plenty of time for some Bud Light Limes and Moscato. It was vacation, after all. I would never have missed this week so I’d take the little stress with Nolan to be able to be there!
The week went by quickly, full of family, candy, great food, and great fun. Annabelle made sure she taught everyone how amazing Moana’s songs are by dancing to them nightly, and we even went for some tube runs with her. My mom and I double skiied, also, which was fun. As great as the week was, I could not wait until we were all in separate rooms once we returned!
Now, for an overload of photos…
Looking back on these pictures brings me so much joy <3
