Before we posted anything on Facebook, or on my blog, we knew there were certain people that needed to be told individually. Some were from text just because we couldn’t see them beforehand, but most was done in person. I spent way too long looking up pregnancy announcements, but ultimately loved how we told everyone.
Read about how I told Aaron here.
The first people we told were my parents (and brother because he was there), and his parents. A long time ago, I found frames from Kohl’s saying “Due Date” and picked them up. I can’t remember why because thoughts of getting pregnant were no where near my mind, but I had them stored away. For both of our parents, we gave them a present, and just said we had bought something for them. They were both equally shocked. My parents had not a clue, and just said “No, really?!” They were so excited. His parents were told the next day, and after his mom realized what it said without her glasses on she started crying, and Aaron’s dad just said “Nooo I thought you guys were waiting.” We used this picture.
I loved telling them, but they knew it was staying a secret for a few more weeks. I guess I should also mention that people have asked us when we’re having kids for over a year now. We were waiting until we were ready, and then we didn’t tell anyone we started trying. I didn’t want that pressure, and didn’t think anyone needed to know. However, I kept pushing the topic off the table and saying “I want to get a job first.” It was the perfect excuse, ha, but then people were curious when in fact we did get pregnant. I HIGHLY recommend keeping it a secret when you decide to try for a baby. It took so much pressure off! Ok, moving on…
We heard the heartbeat on April 1 so we decided to start telling people. For weeks, my coworkers have been saying I was pregnant. I honestly don’t even know how it started. One week I was sick with the flu, but they kept saying it was morning sickness. I ate more yogurt, so it was pregnancy. It was really funny, and I did think they were joking. Well, right after I heard the heartbeat, I decided I would tell them at lunch. I picked up a cookie cake, and took it to them. It said “Janis was right, I am pregnant.” They were all totally shocked, and at the end of discussions asked if it was an April Fools joke, haha. Clearly wrong day to tell them, but that would’ve been such a good joke!
Later that night I told two of my closest friends. I had them over and then gave them an envelope with a card in it. I actually met up with my roommates a few days later and told them the same way.
Thursday night we had Life Group so we told them there. It actually didn’t go over quite as well as we had hoped. Our one friend was due a week later (and had her baby this weekend!), so another friend thought it was for her. Alison (the pregnant one) was just excited it was a cookie cake, and then another wasn’t there. Once they realized, everyone was excited. Oh, and Giant Eagle loved the cookie cake after they wrote on it, haha. Everyone in the bakery was excited for me!
Whew, alright so then we told my dad’s family on Saturday with the cards again. Sunday was the bigger day because it was Easter and that was our plan all along. We went to Aaron’s parents house first, and knew we wanted to get a picture with them. I was very tired of announcing it at this point, haha. It’s nervewracking! We decided to do it right away as my stomach was growing and I was exhausted and not feeling great. Everyone wondered why we wanted a picture of just the kids so fast, but they went with it. I loved their reactions! We told them and then it took 10 consecutive pictures. Hilarious!
Finally, we told my grandma. Originally I was going to wait until after dinner when everyone was around, but I was anxious and just wanted to get it done. I walked in and made my grandma sit because we had something for her and then gave it to her. She was SHOCKED and so happy.
We told Bridget on Facetime because she was at school, and I wanted a creative way to tell my cousin, Jenn. I decided to write a little book to Madison and have her read it to her all about how much love she has and the joy she brings us. Then I went into how she can teach our little one her secrets and tricks and announced we were pregnant. She read it to Madison while we were on Facetime and I loved it!
Those that we texted I just send the same Easter Picture above to them and said “Surprise!” haha How original!
And finally, we posted it to Facebook.
