The other day I was subbing at a school I love, and team teaching with a teacher I adore. She is the sweetest, and always makes me feel the best. She knows subs work just as hard as teachers, and treats me as a teacher while I’m in that room. While we were out on recess duty, we got to talking about her two girls. One of them is in 5th grade and we started chatting about how she’s “nerdy” (her mom’s words- not mine!) but that she loves that her daughter is nerdy. I said yeah, there’s nothing wrong with liking books, and puzzles, and such.
This teacher then went on to say that her daughter has friends who are watching what they eat, making sure they go work out, and talking about how they look. They are in fifth grade. I was astounded and immediately showed my concern, which she also has. Apparently their mother’s are all that way, and have passed it on to their daughters.
I have thought about this situation for a few days, and I can’t get over it. I can’t believe that these mothers are subjecting their daughters, in fifth grade, into this life. A life of watching what they eat, instead of just going out and having fun. A life of looking in the mirror making sure they look ok, instead of being 10 years old. I actually felt terrible for both the moms and the daughters; the mom’s for having these thoughts and clearly portraying them, and the daughter’s for only knowing that kind of behavior. All I hope is that I can one day pass on to my daughter that she is beautiful inside and out, and show her what self confidence looks like.
Alright moving on to my favorite day of the week! You guys, I love sharing workouts with you! It’s easily my favorite thing. When you write to me and tell me you did one, my heart swells. With this in mind, please let me know what kinds of workouts you’d love to see more of! Do you want quick ones, beginners, arms, legs, combo, full body, circuits, etc! I aim to please
This week, I want to share with you a workout I posted on Katie’s blog last week. This was one of my favorite workouts to teach in class so I wanted to make sure you all saw it, too! Everyone was a sweaty mess, which is obviously the best feeling! Please remember to warm up and to stretch when you are complete!
This is a timed workout,so you will do the exercises for 45 seconds, and have a 10 second break before beginning the next. Complete each circuit two times total, and complete the cardio burst after circuit 1 and circuit 2.
For video demonstrations, please head to my exercise dictionary and check them out there.
If you have any questions, let me know!
