Running. It’s always there for me. I love how I can get in a short run and my entire day turns around. But, I’ve been staying in my “safe” zone for the past 2 years. My last race was over a year ago when I ran the Pittsburgh 5k. I loved running around my city, and knew one day I wanted to get back to running the Pittsburgh half marathon.
Well, this is the year.
I hate waking up on race morning and feeling like I’m missing out. I hate not being down there with all the fun and excitement for our city. I have run it three times before, and even when I ran it pregnant, I loved it. So, here we go.
I’m hoping to find a used double jogging stroller so I can include the kids in my training next spring! The race is in May, and I know I do best running about 3 times a week, with one of those being a long run. Of course, if things come up, or I don’t feel like I can actually do it, I won’t hesitate to sell my bib (the prices are cheapest now, which is why I already signed up). Family comes first, but I’ve done well with short training cycles before and hope to build up my base this fall and then have something to work on!
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!
As I was looking at the events that are going on for race weekend, I saw there is a TODDLER TROT! Um, what?! It’s for kids ages 2-4. Could it be any more perfect? I have absolutely no idea about anything, but immediately called up Aaron and said we have to do that. I signed Annabelle up, saw she gets her own shirt (gahh!) and can’t wait for her to run it! It’s Saturday (the day before the relay, marathon, and half), and is apart of the Marathon weekend. The Kids of Steel race and the 5k are also that day. I am beyond excited for her to run that! Annabelle loves running with me, and loves when I go running on my own. It’s really fun to show her mommy works out and see her mimic those (she does push ups, squats, squat jumps, jumping jacks). Next May, we’ll be down cheering her on and then Sunday she’ll be there cheering for mommy.
So yeah, my week has been crazy busy and doesn’t appear to be slowing down (not complaining, the week is going fast!), but there’s that to look forward to! Now for those longer treadmill runs to start…
