This weekend was fabulous, but I ate wayy too much! We’ll get to that in a sec
Since it’s Monday, it’s time to link up with Healthy Diva!
I wasn’t in the mood to cook, but was more than in the mood for pizza. I haven’t had real pizza in so long, and found a coupon for a free pizza for moving into the neighborhood! I thought it was the best reason to get some, so we tried somewhere knew. We also enjoyed some Doritos with our pizza; keeping classy.
It was delicious, but may have been better when I had a piece for dinner Saturday night. Our night was going to be laid back and just hanging out, but our friends were having people over and live up the street, so we headed over! It was a lot of fun, and I happened to make another batch of the cookie cake from last week, which made everyone hate and love me at the same time. What can I say, I’m known as the baker!
I woke up early Saturday to meet my girlfriends and head to the Strip District for breakfast and some shopping.
First of all, I have lived in Pittsburgh my entire life, and have only been in the Strip when I ran through it during the half. I never make it down there! We tried a new restaurant (well, to me anyway) called Deluca’s. It is known for it’s breakfast, so we knew we needed to get there early. I enjoyed Cinnamon French Toast. It was so good! French toast with cinnamon drizzle topped with powder sugar? Yes, please!
After breakfast, we headed to a few different stores; Pittsburgh Macaroni Company, farmer’s market with strawberries for $1!, Pittsburgh Popcorn company
and a little doughnut shop! It literally looked like it was a hole in the wall that’s how small it was! But they had so many amazing options for doughnuts. I had the cookie dough doughnut.. amazing.
Before heading home, I stopped at the park to run 6 miles. Those 6 miles were rough when I ate about 3/4 of this doughnut a half hour before running! Doughnuts are not for running, let me tell you. Those 6 miles consisted of me feeling it in my stomach, but because it was so delicious, I let it go, haha.
Aaron and I went grocery shopping and had some fro-yo while out! It was obviously the best. Sorry, no picture! We did buy ingredients to make a few new things for Saturday night. Earlier in the day, we found out two of our great friends got engaged! (we actually knew Friday night, and I was dying until I heard it officially!) We went to his place to celebrate, so of course that was reason to make some food! I made Cake Batter Rice Krispy Treats, while Aaron made Crab Rangoon Dip. I completely forgot to snap pictures of both of them, but can share recipes if you guys would like! They were both devoured upon arrival, which made me very happy! I don’t like to go places and return with leftovers, haha.
We woke up and I got to work making Homemade Apple Butter! Oh my gosh, it is amazing, and recipe will be shared this week!
We went to a brunch my aunt was having, too! Bridget was home from college, so I was more than happy to see her, and the rest of my family! We immediately left there to go to my dad’s friends party. His wife passed away 2 years ago after battling cancer after cancer, and he has been having parties to remember her every year. It was the “2nd Annual Pansy Anniversary.” I guess he called her Pansy, but her name was Natalie. The food was unreal! He really just wanted to celebrate her life, and how much she meant to everyone in it. Aaron had to stay home to do homework, but I went with my parents and Matt, and met up with some of my dad’s other friends. I indulged in too much for breakfast, and then indulged in even more there. I was stuffed, and this week needs to be more about healthy choices, and less about sugar choices! I’m feeling all these desserts!
They also had a pasta bar, where it was made right in front of you. There were so many options, but I went with a basic shrimp alfredo with three cheese tortellini noodle! I wasn’t super hungry, so I didn’t want too much, but the options were amazing.
When we thought we couldn’t eat any more, they brought out desserts! I had a brownie, which was the best. Matt and I left shortly after, feeling like we could roll away because of how stuffed we were!
It was a beautiful day for a beautiful woman. I love the idea of celebrating her life, and having touches of her all over. Though she definitely went too young, she lived her life to her fullest, and for that we celebrate!
The rest of Sunday included food prep, laundry, and blogging! I’d call it a good night
What did you do this weekend?
Have you ever been to a party in celebration of someone’s life? This was my first one!
Ever tried a mashed potato bar before? This was the first time I heard of it, but I loved the idea!
