It seems like everyone liked learning something new last week, so I’m going to continue sharing things I learn about fitness! Since I talked about why we should warm up already, this week I am going to talk about why we need to cool down. Just like I said how bad I am at warming up, I am equally as bad at cooling down. It seems whenever I am done working out, I am just spent and ready to get on with my day. That, or I continued working out until the last possible time
Why Cool Down?
At the end of the workout, it’s very easy to just want to stop and get on with your day. I’m sure every one of us has been there. Maybe you just forgot to cool down, or maybe you don’t think it’s important. Unfortunately, it’s just as important to cool down as to warm up your body. But why? What does cooling down do?
1. It prevents a rapid drop in your blood pressure.
2. If your blood pressure drops, there is an insufficient supply of blood to reach the brain. This can cause lightheadedness, dizziness, and may result in fainting.
3. You can experience blood pooling. Blood pooling is a result of a stopping exercise without dynamic stretching, and it basically means the blood remains in your lower extremities and can’t get back to your heart and brain in a fast manner.
4. It returns your heart rate to its resting condition. This reduces the stress on your body when done in a gradual way. *
And now.. for a workout!
This week I wanted something to do without equipment, and one to get my heart rate. I knew HIIT was the way to go, but didn’t want to be jumping the entire time. I decided to switch it up, and do one high impact exercise, followed by a low impact core exercise. Do each high impact exercise for 30 seconds and a 15 second break, and the core exercises for 1 minute, with a 15 second break. If you are feeling crazy, do it twice for a 30 minute at-home workout!
And of course I had to go with the Valentine’s theme for the workout! I hope you enjoy!
Whew, this is a long one! Before I go, I want to share how I treated myself last week! Head over to Becky’s blog to see what this is all about!
After hearing about Fabletics, I decided to check it out for myself! When you sign up, you have 24 hours to get an entire outfit starting at $24.95! Some outfits are more, but you can get a 3 piece outfit for just $25! Isn’t that crazy?! Of course I wanted to get one, so I treated myself! I went with a three piece, including a tank, capris, and a cover up.
This outfit was $34.95, but is more than worth that. For size reference, I ordered an x-small in everything and they all fit me like a glove. I have never owned workout clothes that are like this. The pants are super soft, and fit tremendously. They are tight like compression, but totally flattering. There is even a pocket on the waist band to hold keys or gels when running. I loved that this outfit can seamlessly go from working out to running errands with the cover up. I will admit, the cover up is a bit larger than I’d like, but I loved the outfit too much to return. The tank top has a built in bra, with phenomenal coverage. I typically still wear a sports bra with tops that come with “built in protection,” but didn’t have to with this. Cups are sewn in and hold everything in!
This is sort of a subscription service. When you sign up, you are a VIP member. The first of every month they send you new options that you can get with $50 (by the way, my top was originally $50, I believe!). You can either order them, or cancel that months on your account. You may also cancel for good at any point. If you didn’t order anything, but didn’t delay by the 10th of the month, they save your $50 credit for your next order (you are charged for that $50, though!).
Anyway, I loved this outfit and think it’s super cute. There are so many options, and within each “outfit” you can choose different colors. I highly recommend trying this out even just once to treat yourself for the $25!
How often do you cool down?
Have you heard of Fabletics before?
Do you order clothes online without knowing what size you are at that store?
I was not compensated in any way from Fabletics. I treated myself and wanted others to know about it!
