Helloooo Mexico! Cozumel, Mexico was Aaron’s and my last stop! We had heard great things about this location, so we were really excited about it!
Quick update.. Because I didn’t really go in any kind of order for my recaps, I left out some things! Remember the pain Aaron had in his knee? Well, that felt better on Sunday night, and felt great Monday, and he ran on it that night! I know, niether of us thought that would be the case!
After Aaron felt better, I ended up getting sick on Tuesday. It was just a head cold, but for some reason, it was a lot worse than usual. Started with a sore throat, and then got worse. It didn’t stop us from doing anything, though. I wasn’t about to let a cold ruin my honeymoon! It typically felt fine during the day, and would get worse at night. Thursday night (same day as Jamaica), I lost my voice. I actually didn’t regain my voice until Tuesday after we came back. It’s not uncommon for me to lose my voice, at all. It typically happens every time I come down with a cold.
Aaron and I arrived in Mexico ready to go! We actually had quite a packed day; we booked two excursions for Mexico!
Our first excursion was Snuba diving. You probably think I typed that wrong, but I assure you, I did not. I had never heard of this before we went on a cruise, but it was something Aaron really wanted to do. Snuba diving is basically scuba diving. The only difference is that we aren’t in change of our oxygen! All of our equipment stayed in boats on top of the water instead of on our back. Because we weren’t in charge of our own equipment, we didn’t have all of the training for it!
When we arrived off the ship, we had a little bit of time before we had to meet for Snuba. We walked around some shops, and even managed to find Gatorade for a reasonable price! We were both really happy because it was so hot and we both have issues with dehydration. We bought a few things, and then headed to the Snuba meet up spot. We quickly learned that we were on Mexico time, and things never go as planned! Whatever time we were supposed to meet basically meant it’d be at least 20 minutes later, and no one would know what was going on. Finally, it was time to meet, and there ended up only being 5 of us! This was exciting to Aaron because he wanted to stay under the water as long as possible.
After driving to the beach, we learned what we needed, and then got fitted! Because I had a cold, I did have to be cleared to Snuba underwater. The only test was if I could pop my ears, which I could. We headed into the water, not really knowing what we were getting into.
Turns out, Aaron loved it, and I hated it! Hahah I kind of had a feeling this would be the case, because I didn’t think I wanted to see what was under the water, and I hate fish. lol. Yes, I know.. why would I go on this excursion, but my husband wanted to, and I didn’t want to be by myself! Anyway, Aaron was so pumped under the water, and had the best time seeing the weird fish. I tended to float towards the top so I could avoid those!
I think part of the reason I didn’t enjoy this was because I was sick. Yes, I was cleared, but I really should never have done it. You have to pop your ears every 2 feet you go down, and I ended up having a hard time doing so. Then, as I had to keep trying to do so, it made my head feel like a hundred pounds was on top of it. I had the largest headache after, and I think that whole thing just ruined it a bit. However, I will never do it again! Haha Just not for me! I’m shipping Aaron with my dad, and my mom and I will go shopping!
We headed back to the Port around 12:15, which worked perfectly because our next excursion had a meeting time of 12:30. Excursion #2: Swimming with Dolphins! This would be another factor into why we went Snuba diving. I really wanted to swim with Dolphins, while he wanted to Snuba. Our compromise was to do both!
We arrived at the meeting spot, and waited, and waited. We actually were never gathered together and taken to taxi’s until 12:50- much later than we should’ve left!
I won’t lie.. every time we had to get in taxi’s, I became a bit more nervous. I just was never so sure of them, and it scared me. Upon arriving, we were greeted with beautiful views!
We were more excited than ever to get started! Our excursion description was: Ride with Dolphins with downtown shopping and lunch! Being that our excursion started at 12:30, you’d think we would eat lunch first, right? Aaron and I were beyond starving, so we hoped this was the case. Turns out, it wasn’t. The entire area when we arrived was crowded and no one knew where to go. They took us to an area where they told us to put things in a locker, take off any clothes and jewelry, leaving only your bathing suit, and shower to get any sunscreen you had on, off of you. Easy enough, and we were ready. Then, it all turned to a mess. They were telling everyone different things. Aaron and I went to a waiting area, only to be told to go somewhere else. We went where we were finally led to, only to find out we had to snorkel! Ha! I didn’t partake, mostly because I didn’t like Snuba, I already did Snuba, and there were stingray’s in there.
Aaron went in the water for a couple minutes, but then came out and hung out with me. Let’s just say this was disorganized beyond belief; they didn’t get the snorkel gear until everyone went in, we didn’t sign waivers to go in until everyone came out of the water, we didn’t learn anything, and we were stuck in the sun (remember, we didn’t have sunscreen on!). Aaron and I were so hungry and were just annoyed at how slow everything was. We kept seeing people coming down to swim with the dolphins, and it was way past out time now. We were eventually led back up to where we were, and started getting put into groups in the most disorganized way. We finally made it into the water with the dolphins and it was amazing!
I had the best time, and just loved getting to be with the dolphins!! Check them out:
We were finished swimming and allowed to eat our “lunch” at 5:00, with food arriving after 5:30. The service was awful, but we did eat there, before deciding we didn’t even have time for shopping and headed back to the ship. Swimming with dolphins was amazing, and I wouldn’t have traded that experience, but it was beyond disorganized, and took away some of the fun. Add in that my head was pounding and the sun was shining the entire 5 hours we were there, and it made the day a little less than exciting.
We eventually learned that that is just how Mexico works, and that you need to know that before heading to their country. I get it, we shouldn’t have complained, except we were hungry. I think we could have tolerated everything a lot more if we would have been allowed to eat first. I’m hungry just thinking about it! We headed back to the ship where we found more food, and then relaxed! It was a perfect ending to a crazy busy day!
