Hi all! Because I am getting married in 5 short months, I thought I would begin to share my stages of planning! I would say this is what I am most thankful for these days, so here is Thankful Thursday, hosted by the beautiful Jessie. I hope you enjoy hearing our story!
My dad is one of ten. His family has been vacationing at Deep Creek Lake, MD since the children were little! Even though my grandparents have passed, there are still quite a few of us that head down every July. It is a perfect week on the lake, with as much boat time as we can manage. Now, a lot of my family members thought we would get engaged while being down there. Me? Well, I thought he was going to propose every day for the past year. Kidding. Kind of. So, I had no intentions of being proposed to, or even any dreams of it that week. I spent my time hanging out with my family, and enjoying every minute doing exactly what I love. I really am such a family girl!
The week was going fantastically, with beautiful weather and a fun time had by all. On Tuesday, July 10, the day was like any other. We hung out in the sun, ate lots of candy (it is definintely not the healthiest week of the year!), and went tubing a lot behind the boat! This was the first year with our new boat, and it had lights on it to take out at night. Our old one didn’t give off much light, so it was too hard to take out at night. On this specific day, we decided to take it to the restaurant UNOs, which is on the lake. It was a beautiful night, with such a beautiful sunset to go with how perfect this night would be.
On the boat
Another sunset picture.
Before we docked, Aaron leaned in my ear and said we were going to take the boat out ourselves. Because the sunset was pink and beautiful and we don’t get a lot of alone time while we are on this vacation, I just went with it, and thought nothing. We went into the middle of the lake where the sunset was even more magnificent. He got down on one knee, and proposed to me in the middle of the lake! It is a huge lake, and no boat was around! Such an amazing proposal and totally fit me! Nothing makes me happier than being on my boat, so it was absolutely perfect! He had champagne packed and even glasses so we popped it right off the back of the boat!
Right after! Boo for bad photos
While on the boat, we called his parents, and my parents back at the house. They were actually down at the dock by themselves, with no one to hear them, either, which I loved because then we could tell them! They were, obviously, very excited, and couldn’t even wait for us to come back! My dad did know it was coming, because Aaron asked for his permission! (Making me a very happy girl as I wanted that!)
At this point, I really wanted to go back to the restaurant to share our good news (there were about 6 of my cousins that were there waiting for us). My cousin, Bridget has especially been waiting for this day.
Lucky for me, when we got back to the restaurant and docked the boat, my parents were running down the grass to us! My mom couldn’t stay away or wait for us to come back to the house so they came to congratulate us We walked into the restaurant with them and I just put up my hand. If I could’ve taped Bridget’s reaction, I would have loved to share it. She was the happiest ever and bolted towards us screaming and knocking chairs over! Good thing it was later in the evening and it wasn’t crowded! They were all very happy! Aaron and I actually went back with my parents to tell the rest of my family while they were awake at the house. They screamed and were so ecstatic that he did it there, with everyone to celebrate with!
Back at the house showing everyone.
We ended up heading back to UNOs to celebrate with my cousins, and were even greeted with some gifts!
Haha. They did get us a real card, but everything else they gave us came from their pockets! Whatever they had, we are now in possession of
This whole night and the rest of the week was so magnificent. I couldn’t have wished for a better proposal, or vacation.
If you’re engaged, how did the proposal happy?
If you’re not, what would your perfect proposal be?
