Next up in my wedding series happens to be my dress shopping! After Aaron proposed, I actually forgot that meant I got to start looking at dresses! I have Say Yes to the Dress taped as a series on our DVR, that’s how much I was looking forward to dress shopping! Needless to say, I was quite stoked when I realized my mom and I would soon be on the hunt for my perfect dress!
I knew that my maid of honor would be in town one day, so I secretly set up my first dress trip when she would be able to go! It was actually the day I asked her to be my maid of honor, and then told her that we were going dress shopping! I was stoked for this day.
What I thought I wanted, and thought this process would be easy, did not end up being anything I liked! At the first store, The White Orchid, I found 2 that I really liked, but I knew they couldn’t be it. They didn’t have enough on them for me to fall in love. It was surreal trying on dresses for the first time. The faces of Emily and my mom were priceless.
I believe I looked at 4 more dress places. I tried on numerous dresses, but never fell in love with any. Well, I did fall in love with some, when I envisioned what they could be when I added some special touches! There were a couple things I was really looking for in a dress, but soon found that none had them, and I would have to add it. My dad actually came along with me to the rest of the places. I loved having him there and giving his opinions. He knows me inside and out, and I valued his opinion. It also meant a lot to me that he was willing to sacrifice evenings, or come straight from work some nights just to look at dresses, when I knew he was busy at work.
The day we went bridesmaid dress shopping, I actually took everyone to two places to look at the dresses I narrowed down. After seeing their reactions, and trying on the dresses again, I knew which dress I loved and which dress I would walk down the aisle in! It was such an excitement (and stress relief!) to order a dress! Turns out, it took 6 months for my dress to come in!
The dress I chose came in last week, and I was able to go try it on. I forgot how much I loved it! The alterations department wasn’t there, so we improvised with adding my extra touches on, but I fell in love. I am so happy I went with that dress, and can’t wait to see Aaron’s face! The dress fit perfectly, and shouldn’t need anything done to it. My shoes are high enough that I don’t even need it hemmed!
I wish I could show you pictures, but you are going to have to wait for those Only a few more months then all will be revealed!
