Now that you saw we spent most of the days on the water, let’s talk food. We eat a lot of food at Deep Creek. You all know I believe in moderation, and never deprive myself of things. There are a lot of things that don’t interest me; pop and candy are some of those things I just do not care for. My family is the same way. We eat healthy at home, but Deep Creek is the one week of the year where all bets are off. Candy at 9 am? Sure. Chips and cookies after dinner? Absolutely. Some of you are probably rolling your eyes, but it is what it is. We all leave the week knowing we aren’t eating that way again, and we are all fine with that!
Here’s a look at what we ate! Breakfasts were either cereal, bagels from Einstein’s my cousin brought down, banana bread another cousin made, or pancakes one day. One day my uncle also made Sausage Gravy and Biscuits, but I don’t like that. I forgot to take a picture, too. Sorry!
Lunches were leftovers or sandwiches.
Candy and Snacks:
Take this for instance. Our candy cupboard was so packed, a shelf broke We also had enough snacks for an army. And no, we didn’t eat everything shown here! We did come close, though! ha. The cake was dessert for Saturday night. Saturday dinner was fried chicken with potato salad, pasta salad, and fruit. This meal is typically easy as we all get in after 4 and are unpacking.
Sunday and Monday:
Sunday night was fresh bread, salad (unpictured) and homemade lasagna! My uncle made 5 pans of homemade lasagna! Delicious. Dessert was chocolate bundt cake and pumpkin bars. Monday night was a ham dinner, with cheese potatoes, corn, watermelon, and leftover bread. Ham isn’t my favorite, but I was really hungry so it tasted good. The potatoes are the hands down favorite. Dessert was vanilla ice cream with toppings, one being cookie dough! Mmm
One thing we do each year at Deep Creek is have Pizza Pies. We’ve tried them as dinner, but prefer them as lunch. For this, you make a fire, and have pie irons. When you make them, you butter two slices of bread, placing them with the butter on the pie iron. You can fill in what toppings you want. We always have sauce, cheese, pepperoni, and mushrooms on hand. These are our favorite tradition! After one or two (or three or four!) pies, there are dessert pies. I’m not a dessert person, but you do the same thing with the bread, and place in fruit topping. We have cherry, apple, and blueberry to put in. You then close the pie and heat it over the fire, checking often!
Dinner was tacos! You guys, tacos are hands down the best meal of the week. There is everything you could ever want. I went for the nacho style, and loaded it up with guacamole, nacho cheese, soure cream, onions, chips, meat, and salsa. All those toppings take it to the next level! Dessert was an ice cream sandwich cake, but forgot to snap pictures.
I forgot to snack pictures of Wednesday, but only because I was too hungry. We had Pulled Pork, corn bread, coleslaw. It was very good! We ended the night with freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and snickerdoodles as dessert.
Thursday night was my night to cook! My cousin Brynn and I were given a night this year. She has been married a few years, and this was my first year being married, so we joined forces. We had hot dogs, with toppings of onions, chili, and sauerkraut. We had a plentiful amount of veggies, and Shells & Cheese (another favorite for the week!). Aaron was in charge of the grill, while us ladies manned the kitchen. We had rave reviews from our All American dinner We were going to get Apple pie for dessert, but instead settled on…
Aaron tried cooking a s’more in a pizza iron with a Reese cup in it. He said it wasn’t worth it, but was still good. I actually don’t like S’mores; I’m weird. We had marshmallows specifically made for S’mores. Did you know they made these things?
They are square and perfect for the graham cracker!
Friday night dinner was Pizza. Again, we were so hungry we just dove in with no picture. I also had my camera packed as we had to leave Friday night. Imagine huge slices of delicious pizza! Mmm!
And there’s the food we ate at Deep Creek! Thanks Jenn for hosting!
